What is your TCREW Story? (i.e. When did you join TCREW and in what ways have you been active--committees, chair positions, etc)
I joined TCREW in November of 2017 but started the process about 3 months prior with my applications, etc. I was active in the Programs committee for 2018 and somewhat active in 2019. Those are the facts but not my TCREW story.
I have attended TCREW events since 2011 and always admired the people in the room – these leaders impact the Triangle. In complete transparency this caused me to be somewhat jealous of this amazing group as I thought it was exclusive. I found out in 2017 that men, are in fact, encouraged to join the organization – I jumped at the opportunity! Since I have been involved, I have been welcomed with open arms!
What is your most significant TCREW connection? How has your TCREW membership been impactful in your own personal growth and development?
Kellie Ford was the connection that introduced me to the idea of joining TCREW so that is definitely a significant TCREW connection for me. The more I learn about TCREW, the more I realize that the connections made, and the relationships built through TCREW are what matters most. I know these relationships made will impact me personally and professionally throughout my career.
How do you see TCREW impacting the Triangle?
I have seen firsthand how TCREW has propelled women’s careers in the Triangle. This organization is an incubator in my opinion that can take in a woman early in her career and after some time with TCREW, place a strong, powerful, and educated woman into the workforce.
How can we, as women in the commercial real estate industry, best make an impact in mentoring the next generation of women in CRE?
Continue having leaders of the TCREW organization who know the value, and push for the mentoring of the next generation of women in CRE.
What is one goal you would like to achieve through TCREW?
To remain a member of TCREW for the remainder of my career.
What is the best leadership advice you have been given or can give to others?
Two major points here:
First, always believe in helping others is an important value in leadership. You are remembered for not what you have done, but for whom you have helped along the way - to become better than who you are.
Second, always strive to be a servant leader and use Jesus as an example on how to lead. I believe we all should strive to be a fully committed and effective servant leader like Jesus.
