Name: Kelly Monroe

How do you benefit from your TCREW Membership? The networking within TCREW has been very beneficial. I have met some fantastic women!
What do you do at SKANSKA and in what circumstances would I come to you for something? Feel free to reach out to me for construction market trends, construction best practices, benchmarking, etc. I also have national relationships and can make introductions if members are trying to grow their firms in geographic markets beyond the Triangle.
How do you prefer to start your day? I like to start my day with a run with one of my best girlfriends. We talk kids, husbands, work and life in general. It’s a great way to get my day started. Exercise and friendship!
What led you to this career? A recruiter randomly led me to Skanska when I was a fairly new college graduate. I knew nothing about construction when I was hired and thought I would only stay for a year and then move on to the next job. 16 years later I’m still here and thankful to work to have had such a rewarding career at Skanska.
What energizes you at work? My project teams. We have some great people at Skanska and they always energize me to do my best and look for the right projects where they can be successful.
What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of? I led the development and rollout of two new teams within Skanska. One was our Global Healthcare Center of Excellence and most recently our National Market Strategy Team.
What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy day? My favorite way to unwind is a glass of wine on my patio and depending on the day it might be two glasses!
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be an actress.
What book are you reading now? The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. If you haven’t it read it yet then please buy a copy today! It is a really short read but life changing.
What’s one totally irrational fear that you have? Getting bit by a copperhead snake. Although living in the Triangle, I don’t feel like this is really irrational. I’m terrified of it happening.
What’s your go-to karaoke song? I want to Dance with Somebody by Whitney Houston (I think I am amazing at singing this song but my husband and friends don’t agree with me).
